Soil Remediation
GBI provides patented technologies and services in the form of modular treatment systems, laboratory biofeasibility testing, small-scale field pilot testing and full-scale remediation design and implementation services. Butane Biostimulation Technologies enhance natural attenuation by stimulating indigenous microorganisms. Inoculation or bioaugmentation methods are not employed at a test site.
Global BioSciences, Inc.®, has developed proprietary, reliable and cost-effective bioremediation technologies to clean up or remediate a variety of soil environmental pollutants such as chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), PCBs, pesticides, and PAHs.
Butane Biostimulation Technologies (Butane Bioventing for soil) are innovative and field-tested processes that stimulate bacterial metabolism and cometabolism of soil contaminants by injecting butane (or butane and air) into the contaminated area.
A Butane Bioventing system can be installed concurrently with a Butane Biosparging system to treat the source area soils by maintaining a vacuum within vadose zone soils. The Butane Bioventing system controls potential migration of VOCs from the treatment area into adjacent buildings. In addition, the bioventing system further oxygenates soils resulting in enhanced microbial degradation of petroleum compounds in the capillary fringe and vadose zone. The effluent from the Butane Bioventing system is piped back into the butane biotreatment zone, thus allowing for vapor control while reducing the overall O&M costs by eliminating the need for carbon replacement or regeneration and by recycling the butane gas.
